Kairos Power Names Dr. Mike McGuire as Vice President, Operations & Site Delivery

Oak Ridge, Tenn. – Kairos Power today announced the appointment of Dr. Mike McGuire to serve as Vice President, Operations & Site Delivery.

Dr. McGuire brings over 30 years of leadership experience across the aerospace, advanced technology, and defense sectors. He mostrecently served as a Senior Director of Launch & Recovery Operations at SpaceX, after retiring from a distinguished, 25-year career in the U.S. Army Special Operations Command

In his new role at Kairos Power, Dr. McGuire will lead the delivery of project milestones related to the Hermes 2 Demonstration Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and support future commercial deployments as the company expands.

"We are thrilled to bring Dr. McGuire on board the Kairos Power team,” said Ed Blandford, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Kairos Power. “His experience leading high-performing teams executing complex, challenging technology projects will strengthen our transition from a development organization to a company actively commissioning, operating, and maintaining commercial reactor facilities.”

As Vice President, Operations & Site Delivery, Dr.McGuire will oversee plant delivery from construction through installation, commissioning, and startup. He will lead integrated execution of Kairos Power’s multi-site operations capability, deliver site milestones, and ensure operational readiness across our sites in Albuquerque, Oak Ridge, and future deployment locations.

Throughout his career, Dr. McGuire has delivered complex engineering and operational programs in mission-critical environments. With his leadership, Kairos Power will execute complex, multi-site projects in partnership with the company’s internal Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, Licensing, and Commercial organizations, helping to ensure designs are constructible, facilities are operationally ready, and projects are completed safely, predictably, and on schedule.

“I’m honored to join Kairos Power and to work with people who are deeply committed to building physical hardware and embracing iteration," said Dr. McGuire. "Throughout my career, I’ve seen that the most challenging missions are accomplished by teams that trust one another, communicate clearly, and stay focused on doing the work safely and well. I’m excited to lead and support the teams delivering Kairos Power reactors, while developing the people, capabilities, and operating culture that will help this technology to change the world.”

Dr. McGuire holds a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a master’s degree in management from Stanford University.
