NRC ruling boosts SMR build prospects at disused coal plants

A new favorable ruling on Tennessee Valley Authority’s safety methodology for re-sizing emergency zones could open up SMR build opportunities on retired coal sites and closer to population centers, Dan Stout, Senior manager, SMR technology at TVA, told Nuclear Energy Insider. SMR developers see disused coal plants and industrial sites as key siting opportunities.
